BASIC TUNING KIT

Well-tuned skis are essential at all levels of ski racing. The following list outlines the basics to get you started. Items in bold are best purchased through the club. The remaining items are easily purchased at your local hardware. Coaches will help with any questions. Instruction on proper tuning technique will be part or our regular training sessions.

-File guide (either 87 or 88 degrees)

-Three temperatures of wax (1. cold—minus 20 2. warm—up to plus 5 3. universal)

-Wax texturing brush

-Flat bastard file (8” to 12”—chrome is best, but steel is acceptable and cheaper)

-File card brush

-New paintbrush

-Diamond stone (Princess Auto has best deal)

-Spring clamp

-Iron (an older model with adjustable heat settings and no steam holes)

-Plastic scraper

-Ski brake holder (something to hold the brakes down—a strong elastic band, or Velcro strap)

Put everything into a toolbox big enough to add stuff as tuning skills develop.
